The Williams Wedding

Couple: John and Alexia Williams

Wedding Date: September 10, 2016

Location: The Bradford, New Hill, NC

The Wedding Dress: Justin Alexander, style 8795

Photography: Tina Kelly, 360 Vision Events

More Details: Our wedding was absolutely perfect. After our engagement, I spent many days looking on Pinterest and fell in love with the concept of black and white stripes. It’s so classy. Along with our black and white theme, I decided to incorporate blush and gold as accent colors, which made everything even more vintage and romantic. It was absolutely amazing how our wedding planner and design coordinator Dana, from C&D Events, was able to turn my Pinterest vision into a reality with her team. My favorite part of the wedding was getting to marry my best friend and dancing the night away with around 200 family members and friends.

I loved my wedding dress. Before visiting New York Bride & Groom, I had already narrowed down my wishlist to wedding dresses with beautiful trains and full skirts — drama! When I saw my dress on the hanger, I was mesmerized by the beautiful laser-cut lace and full dramatic skirt. I tried on many other dresses during my visit, but still came back to this one. When I put it on a second time I started crying and just knew it was the one I wanted. Our bridesmaid dresses and tuxedos also came from NYB&G of Raleigh. The bridesmaid dresses were very different due to their striped pattern, but the silhouette was perfect and the pattern was ideal for our theme.

New York Bride & Groom is Raleigh’s Tuxedo Rental Headquarters

Stephen Geoffrey, style 602: Up the style quotient in an ivory tuxedo jacket with a sleek, satin notched lapel. Our featured tux (pictured above) is the perfect choice for a sophisticated, warm weather affair. Customize the look with coordinating pleated trousers in ivory or black.

Finding the ideal formal wear doesn’t have to be scary for the grooms party. In fact, we promise it will be painless. We can make that vow because New York Bride & Groom offers the guys their own tuxedo rental department as well as their own shop attendants to help simplify everything. Our experienced consultants will help everyone assemble their suits and make sure that the correct measurements are taken and the orders are properly placed. Best of all, we stock samples of every suit so you can feel the material and see the true color. There’s no guesswork like with most other salons, where you’re only option is ordering from a catalog or an online gallery.

The following tips from The Knot are a great starting point when it’s time to dress the guys:

His suit or tux should fit the formality

At the most basic level, his attire should be appropriate for your venue and fit with the overall vibe of the wedding. If your wedding is in the daytime or outdoors, it can be a bit more casual (think: lighter-colored suits made of fabrics like seersucker or khaki). If it’s an evening affair in a ballroom or swanky hotel, go with either a dark, well-tailored suit or for black-tie attire (a tux). Need to step it up one more notch? Suited for an extra-luxe venue, white-tie is the ultimate in formalwear. This means a black tailcoat, white shirt and white bow tie.

His fit should be perfect

Even the most expensive tux on the rack will look and feel awful if it doesn’t fit right. He should be able to move around easily — have him do lots of twists, turns and arm raises to make sure there’s plenty of mobility. Regardless of whether he’s renting or buying, most shops will custom tailor the purchase. Here are a few basic tailoring rules:

  • The jacket sleeve hem should fall at the wristbone with about one-fourth to one half inch of the shirt cuff showing below.
  • The bottom hem of the jacket should cover the butt and the vent shouldn’t pull open. If it does, that means it’s too tight.
  • The collar should lie flat on the back and sides of the neck without any gaps or bulges.
  • Pants should fit comfortably when standing and sitting and break across the top of the shoes so that they cover the top one-third.
  • A bow tie should fit snugly around the collar. See more tips at The Knot

Michael Kors, style 991: The Ultra Slim Berkeley offers a modern approach to a classic tuxedo style. Its trim and tapered fit and lightweight Venetian Super 130s wool provide the ultimate fit and feel in a tux. Details like the grosgrain notch lapel, matching buttons, and grosgrain-trimmed double besom pockets complete the look. Pair the ensemble with matching ultra slim fit pants and a matching wool vest for a 3-piece look. Also available in slim fit styling to accommodate all the members of your party.

Rent 5 Tuxedos and the Groom’s Tux is Free

It’s a very good day when you can take care of a major wedding day detail, find great-looking outfits and save money simultaneously. If 5 or more tuxedos are rented for your wedding, we’ll throw in another free of charge. This guarantees your grooms party will look outstanding, crosses an item off your list and saves money for the groom. Send all the guys in your wedding to NYB&G and we’ll make sure everything gets handled.

Tuxedo Matching 101

While the groom should clearly have some autonomy over his suit choice, it’s important that he choose a tuxedo that works with the rest of the wedding party’s look (particularly the bride, of course) and fits the formality of the ceremony. Check out the following article for suggestions to help the groom find a complementary tux:

Is the bride’s dress ivory, or is it white?

Although the grooms may not know exactly what they are looking for when they walk into Street Tuxedo (Nashville, TN), Mark says the brides who accompany them usually have a pretty good idea themselves! Whether the groom is going for a traditional look or a trendier adaptation, one of the first questions Mark will ask is whether the bride’s gown is ivory or white. This helps determine what color shirts the men in the wedding party will wear.

What color are the bridesmaids wearing?

Next, it is important to find out what color the bridesmaids are wearing in order to match or complement the vests and ties the men decide on. While many men choose to wear the regular neck ties with their formal wear, Mark has noticed bow ties becoming increasingly popular with grooms as well. It all depends on the level of formality of the event and individual tastes of the couples. Continue reading at The Pink Bride

Deciphering Wedding Gown Necklines at NYB&G Raleigh

Allure Couture, style C404: Our featured dress (pictured above) is a slim-fitting silhouette that features dimensional detailing, cinched at an empire waist. The delicately scalloped neckline offers a romantic edge to this lace and English net design. Available sizes: 2-32. Available colors: Latte/Ivory/Silver, Ivory/Silver, White/Silver.

Negotiating The Necklines

It’s amazing how the neckline of your wedding dress can completely change your entire look (and also how you feel about a gown). The width, lay and style of the bodice and associated straps (or lack thereof) define your upper arms, back, shoulders and décolletage. It can even influence how elongated your silhouette becomes right down to your waistline. Our experienced Bridal Consultants at NYB&G of Raleigh can help you find the neckline that perfectly complements your size, shape and personal style.

To begin, the following illustration provides a wonderful visual of the various neckline styles you will encounter on your wedding dress search:

Next, the easy-to-follow outline below, compliments of The Knot, breaks down the pros and cons of a variety of wedding gown necklines:

Off-the-Shoulder

Just like the name implies, this neckline sits below the shoulders to showcase a woman’s collarbone and shoulders, with sleeves that cover part of the upper arm. While this style is super flattering to medium- or full-chested women, an off-the-shoulder neckline will look good on almost all figures. But if you’ve got fuller arms and are uncomfortable with baring your shoulders, you may wan to consider a portrait neckline instead.
Good for: Full-chested and pear-shaped women
Bad for: Broad shoulders, fuller arms

Portrait

Similar to an off-the-shoulder style but made with more fabric, the portrait neckline is characterized by a wide, soft scoop from the tip of one shoulder to the tip of the other.
Good for: Fuller arms and prominent collarbones
Bad for: Undefined collarbones

Scoop

The scoop, a U-shaped neckline, is a universally flattering classic. It can be cut low, and quite often the scoop will continue on the back of the dress.
Good for: Just about anyone

Rebecca Ingram, style Vernice: Gorgeous lace appliques enchant this tulle A-line, showcasing a sweetheart neckline trimmed in Swarovski crystals and delicate pearls and beads. Bodice features a corset closure or inner corset closure and covered buttons over zipper. A scalloped hem completes this mesmerizing gown. Available sizes: 0-28. Available colors: White, Ivory, Ivory over Light Gold (pictured).

Sweetheart

The sweetheart neckline — which is actually shaped like the top half of a heart — is a wonderful option for fuller-chested women because it really accentuates the décolletage. The sweetheart is often done with an overlay of sheer material that rises higher than the heart shape, giving the torso a longer line and also making the neck look longer.
Good for: Serious décolletage
Bad for: The décolletage-impaired

Jewel

Also known as the T-shirt neckline, due to it’s similarity to an actual T-shirt, the jewel neckline is round and sits at the base of the throat.
Good for: Small-chested woman (it will make you look bustier)
Bad for: Large-chested women (it will make you look bustier too)

V-neck

The name says it all: The neckline dips down in the front (and sometimes in the back as well) in a V-shape, de-emphasizing the bustline.
Good for: B or C cups
Bad for: Anyone bigger or smaller

Strapless

The strapless neckline is a popular choice with busty brides, and it looks wonderful when paired with either a sweetheart or straight-across square bodice.
Good for: Great shoulders and collarbones
Bad for: Smaller-chested women

Sabrina/Bateau

This shape gently follows the curve of the collarbone, almost to the tip of the shoulders — and it’s cut straight across so less of the decolletage shows. It can be paired with sleeves or a sleeveless style.
Good for: Small breasts
Bad for: The well-endowed More details at The Knot

Sincerity, style 3855: This embroidered and beaded lace and tulle tea-length ball gown offers a sweet sabrina neckline. The plunging back finishes with fabric buttons harmonizing with an elegant bow to define the waist. Available in Ivory (pictured) and White.
