The Hoffer Wedding

Couple: Taylor and Hailey Hoffer

Wedding Date: August 23, 2014

Location: Magnolia Plantation, Charleston, SC

The Wedding Dress: Allure Bridal, style 9011

Photography: Chuck and Olive Photography

More Details: Getting married in Charleston, I knew I wanted a very southern style wedding. My husband and his family are from Seattle, so we had a lot of out-of-town guests who had never experienced “the South.” Growing up in North Carolina, I knew I wanted to bring out the beauty of the south with a rustic twist. We got married at the Magnolia Plantation in front of the Carriage House. We used a lot of natural resources such as sunflowers, cotton, seagrass flowers, and spanish moss in the wedding decor to bring out the southern theme we were going for. Everything just tied in perfectly that day, including my dress.

The second I saw it I fell in love. I wanted a different look; something that hadn’t been seen a lot and this dress was different. Getting married at the Magnolia Plantation, my dress had to have some type of Scarlett O’Hara feel. The second I put it on I knew it was the one. The team at New York Bride & Groom were so complimentary of the way it looked on me. And when they put the veil on me the tears started flowing. I knew it was the dress I had always dreamed of. All around, It was the most beautiful day, and by far the best day of our lives.

Kenneth Winston, style 1684: Using an oyster satin opened up a lot of opportunities with design. In this case, it allowed for the blending of a bold metallic silver. Pearl accents and clear beading were used to compliment and serve as centers for the floral patterns. We added a high sheen clear/silver threaded net an underlayer to further integrate the oyster. As we taper the embroidery through the skirt, the silhouette chosen here further slims the figure. Fabric: Beaded Embroidery Pattern on Pattern Tulle and Satin. Available colors: Oyster/Ivory Silver, Ivory/Ivory Silver, White/White Silver. See more at Kenneth Winston

The Morris Wedding

Couple: Philip and Jaime Morris

Wedding Date: October 22, 2016

Location: The Oaks at Salem, Apex, NC

The Wedding Dress: Allure Bridal, style 2653

Photography: Erin Costa Photography

More Details: We had a fall wedding theme, including pumpkins, pinecones and all of the fall colors (purples, reds, yellows, oranges). All of our vendors were amazing. It was really special to have all our friends and family together, especially those who traveled from out of town, to celebrate with us.

I loved that my wedding dress wasn’t the “traditional” strapless gown that most girls wear. I loved the high neckline and lace details. My bridesmaids dresses were from Dessy and they really added that pop of color for our fall theme.

Tips for Your Winter Wonderland Wedding Dress

An increasing number of couples are opting to forego tradition and get married during the winter months instead of spring, summer or fall. It’s ideal for brides and grooms who want to create a warm and cozy ceremony that showcases the beauty and wonder of the holiday season. Plus, many venues offer off-season rates in the winter and loved ones often have the holidays off from work so there may be fewer scheduling conflicts. These are compelling reasons to consider a winter wedding.

If you are thinking about it, New York Bride & Groom has an array of beautiful gowns and accessories that are perfect for the colder months. For instance, the gorgeous capelet in our featured photo (Marionat, style 7108) is a great way to alter the dimension of your wedding dress and add some practical warmth. Be sure to take plenty of photos with and without your accessories to capture all of your looks in your wedding album.

Justin Alexander, style 8903: Fall in love with this off-the-shoulder fit and flare gown (right) with allover sequin lace appliques, elbow-length illusion sleeves, illusion back, and chapel length train. Add veil style 8903V for a classic look. Colors available: Champagne/Ivory, Ivory

Illusion Sleeves: Beauty and Warmth

Besides looking phenomenal, illusion sleeves offer some practicality during the winter season. Having a delicate layer of lace inspired detail can help keep you warmer than if your arms are bare. Some dresses have removable sleeve options. New York Bride & Groom’s top-notch alterations department can help you achieve the detailing you desire on your wedding dress, such as adding sleeves or backs. We also have a wonderful selection of accessories available if you want to add a layer of warmth to your wedding gown.

Keeping Your Guests Cozy

Offering a fleece keepsake or handmade throw can be a fun way to reserve table settings and place names. Simply drape some winter warmth over your guests’ chairs or have baskets of rolled up blankets available by the exterior door. Consider monogramming your wedding date or your guests’ initials on their blankets for a meaningful and useful wedding favor. Your loved ones will be able to celebrate comfortably bundled in their new wraps.

Knitted blankets are a nice touch at your winter wedding since guests might get chilly in their formal attire. Tie cozy options in a neutral shade to each guests’ chair with a name tag for an alternative to escort cards.

Designate seats for you and your new husband with pretty wreaths and handmade signs.

To thank your guests for attending your big day, give a gift that they can enjoy for seasons to come. Evergreen saplings are affordable and adorable — not to mention the perfect complement for a winter wedding. Continue reading at Brides.com

A hot toddy (or any kind of hot beverage) is always a great idea at a winter wedding. Here’s what The Knot has to say on the topic:

Cocktail Hour

A winter cocktail hour calls for warm, comforting drinks. You really can’t go wrong with hot chocolate and warm apple cider, but it’s your wedding — why not take every opportunity (drinks included) to add an element of surprise?

What’s Hot Now: Serve up white hot chocolate in small espresso cups and eggnog in small punch glasses for your guests as they arrive. At the bar, offer saketinis (Japanese rice wine and sweet-flavored vodka) in glasses rimmed with sugar crystals. More details at The Knot

Kenneth Winston, style 1711: If you are seeking some Hollywood glam for your New Year’s Eve wedding, this Kenneth Winston dress (left) captures the light and the glitz. The radiant silver tones in the gown are the perfect accent for a winter wedding. Colors available: Champagne/Ivory, Ivory/Ivory.

Wedding Colors

Reds and greens reflect the season, but overdo this color combo and your wedding may seem more holiday-oriented than you’d like. Consider a less-is-more approach to your color palette: Silver and white with crystal accents can add some serious glamour to your winter wedding. For your ceremony, try a white velvet aisle runner trimmed with white satin ribbon, or decorate the altar with a crystal curtain backdrop adorned with hanging strands of elegant white phalaenopsis orchids. If you’re exchanging vows outdoors, get your guests involved in creating the ambience by giving them clear umbrellas as they arrive.

Brides, grooms, bridesmaids and groomsmen will find the perfect winter wedding look in our dedicated departments for wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses and rental tuxedos. Come browse the shop at your convenience — no appointment is needed — and discover why we are the premier bridal salon in the entire Raleigh metro region.
